Image Metadata Viewer

Inspect detected format, dimensions, file size and device timestamp. Does not extract EXIF or GPS metadata.

How to Use Image Metadata Viewer

Follow these steps, then review the result and the limitations below:

  1. Select a supported static image.
  2. Click Inspect Image.
  3. Read the detected properties and distinguish the file timestamp from an original camera capture date.

Practical Worked Example

A 120 × 60 PNG reports PNG, dimensions 120 × 60 and aspect ratio 2.000:1. The file size comes from the actual selected file and varies by content and encoding.

Key Features & Capabilities

  • Task-specific controls with labelled fields and status feedback.
  • Processing uses browser APIs without a tool upload request.
  • Invalid input is reported before a successful output is offered.

Inspect basic file and image properties

This viewer reports the filename, detected format, byte size, decoded dimensions, aspect ratio and device file timestamp. Despite its historical name, it does not extract EXIF camera fields, GPS coordinates or color profiles.

How It Works (Technical Overview)

The file signature identifies the container format, the browser decoder supplies dimensions, and the File API supplies the filename, byte length and last-modified timestamp.

Real-World Use Cases & Applications

  • Inspect basic file and image properties. Check the worked example before processing your own input.

Privacy, Security & Accuracy

An empty camera or GPS report is not provided, because those fields are not examined. This tool cannot certify that a file contains no private metadata, authenticate a photograph or establish when it was captured. Practical limits depend on browser support and available memory. Files above 20 MiB are rejected; raster processing is limited to 16 million pixels and output dimensions to 8192 pixels per side.

Pro Tips for Best Results

Check the result against your original and the requirements of the destination. Keep an unchanged source copy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this remove metadata?

No. It reads basic properties and does not modify the file. A metadata removal workflow is separate from inspecting dimensions.

Is my input uploaded for processing?

The tool code works in the browser. The page can also load advertising or analytics scripts, which have separate data practices. Avoid sensitive files on an unsuitable device or page.
